My name is Dennis Behnke — a native Berliner, historian, and your private guide to one of Europe's most fascinating cities. I grew up in what was once the American sector of a divided Berlin, and the city's complex history has been my passion since childhood.
Since 2007 I've been leading private tours through Berlin's past and present — from Jewish history, the Third Reich, to Cold War life behind the Berlin Wall, street art, and beyond. With a degree in History and German Literature from the University of Potsdam, I offer a unique insider's view of German history and identity. On foot, by bike, public transport, van, or bus — we do it your way.

Private Tours
My approach.
I was 15 when my class visited Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Two hours of guided tour. One sentence stayed with me: “Most people here died of diseases and starvation.” That was it — two hours, one fact.
When I started guiding at Sachsenhausen years later, that memory drove everything. I didn't want to explain what happened — I wanted people to understand why, and still be thinking about it a month later. The answer was simpler than I expected: forget the dates, tell a life.
I rebuilt my Sachsenhausen tour around the biography of a single prisoner. Teachers wrote weeks later saying their students — 15, 16 years old — were still talking about names from the tour. They'd started reading on their own.
All it took was a face
and a story.
